Nissan Calendar 2014

Each year Nissan produces a calendar under the theme of its brand tagline “Excitement unlike any other.” The year 2014 version is an innovative one, featuring “Nicolai Bergmann” who is a renowned floral design artist in Japan. All visual images used in the calendar include flower arrangements Nicolai Bergmann created based on inspirations he received from Nissan vehicles featured in the calendar. Though contemporary use of bespoke Indigenous artwork, and its traditional visual story-telling elements, the identity distinguishes Australia as the host country for the G20 in 2014, and promises a new direction through an emphasis on collaboration and interaction between nations.

Sense

The corresponding English name ‘SENSE’ refers to intuition, a stage higher than knowledge, imagination and inspiration, and closely reflects the phonetic pronunciation of its Chinese counterpart – ‘san xiang san’. The logo represents Eastern thinking: Although one does not completely see the three hills, partially covered by 'clouds', there are nonetheless present.

Huatu

The striking simplicity of the logo mark makes it easy to remember. The two letters ‘Hua’ and ‘Tu’ overlap, highlighting their common denominator, the letter ‘u’. Amplifying this letter ‘u’ interestingly resembles a book (the essence of the business). To further stress the attributes of the industry, the designer applied the shape of a Chinese thread-bound book in the visual application, reflecting a strong sense of Chinese culture and form. Overall, this training brand adopted a visual system which both brings new energy and expression, but also provides a sense of authority.
